Creating A Fun, Safe Garden For Your Children

As the mum of five young children, I know how important it is to have access to a safe outdoor space for your children to play. Being cooped up in the house all day isn't good for the kids or the parents, but you also can't let young kids play in a space that's hazardous. When we bought our new family home, there was a lot of work to do in the garden to make it childproof, and we also wanted to make it a fun place for the kids to play. We erected a new fence, fitted a combination lock on the garden gate, had poisonous plants removed, cordoned off the pool and created a play area complete with swings, a slide and outdoor games. I started this blog to share my DIY gardening tips, and I hope you find it interesting and useful.

What You Need to Know About Roll-a-Doors

by Darlene Jenkins

Roll-a-doors are doors that are opened by travelling vertically and gatherig up into a roll. They are used for both residential and commercial purposes for garages, stores, warehouses, factories and shops where they provide convenient and easy access while offering security to your valuables. They come in different types, styles and designs depending on your needs.

Types of roll-a-doors

Generally, roll-a-doors come in two different types: the section roll up doors and rolling steel doors. Section roll-a-doors are made of horizontal panels that are rolled up together. The door is rolled up to the ceiling when being opened. The rolling steel doors are rolled up to the garage or store's opening. They are made using a single panel of material.

Roll-a-doors can be made from steel, aluminium, fibreglass or wood. Steel and aluminium roll a doors are commonly used due to their durability and strength. Wood is suitable in making sectional roll-a-doors. Transparent corrugated fiberglass sheets are the most delicate materials for making roll-a-doors and are applicable where there is minimal impact resistance.

Advantages of using roll-a-doors

Roll-a-doors have several benefits that you would not get from a standard door.

  • Automation: Automation can be incorporated to the roll-a-door during or after installation. It is possible to include door openers that allow remote controlled operations.
  • Compactness: Roll-a-doors are compact in their operations. The vertical movement prevents the door from swinging out of the garage or store. If the door is used for a garage, the cars can drive and park up to the door without causing any obstructions. This saves you from the need to have longer driveways for car parking.
  • Security: The number one advantage of using roll-a-doors is the security they provide. Aluminium and steel roll-a-doors are an affordable way to protect your store, warehouse, garage or factory. The corrugation provides additional strength and stiffness to the shatter which increases resistance to damage. Once you install them, you will not be required to have repairs or replacement of door knobs and locks.
  • Weather proof: Unlike standard doors, roller doors do not allow rain or snow into your garage, store or warehouse. The door's perimeter has a rubber seal at the bottom which prevents entry of water, snow, dust and pests. Fire-rated roll-a-doors help secure compartments within a building to prevent fire from spreading. Fire-rated roll a doors are able to withstand extremely high temperatures, ensuring the safety of your valuables in case of a fire.

With a wide variety to choose from, you should be able to get a roll-a-door that suits the needs of your home. For more insight on your options, contact companies like Greg James Garage Doors.
