Creating A Fun, Safe Garden For Your Children

As the mum of five young children, I know how important it is to have access to a safe outdoor space for your children to play. Being cooped up in the house all day isn't good for the kids or the parents, but you also can't let young kids play in a space that's hazardous. When we bought our new family home, there was a lot of work to do in the garden to make it childproof, and we also wanted to make it a fun place for the kids to play. We erected a new fence, fitted a combination lock on the garden gate, had poisonous plants removed, cordoned off the pool and created a play area complete with swings, a slide and outdoor games. I started this blog to share my DIY gardening tips, and I hope you find it interesting and useful.

Stain Removal | Top 4 Carpet Cleaning Methods

by Darlene Jenkins

Have you just bought your first carpet and are having trouble making that dirt and stain disappear? Do not worry, help is just a sentence away. If you want a spotless floor cover, below are some of the most effective ways you can use.

Sectional Cleaning With Absorbent Compound

This method can be rather slow but guarantees a thorough clean. As the name suggests, you are going to have to divide your carpet into small quadrants. The length and width of a section should be about two steps. A special cleaning powder is then pumped into the carpet fibres using a machine with opposite rotating brushes. Do this repetitively for maximum suction of dirt and dust, and then suck the powder with a vacuum. This method is also ecofriendly since it helps save water.

Hot Water Extraction

It is commonly known as steam cleaning. The first step of this method requires the application of a chemical solution that acts as a dirt absorbent on your carpet. Leave the carpet to soak in the detergent for a while.  Using a jet spray, inject hot water through your entire carpet. Apart from washing away the detergent, the water itself also absorbs dust. In addition, the heat also kills germs and other pathogens from your carpet, making this method very hygienic. Lastly, you can remove the water using a vacuum or by sun drying.  Since steam cleaning uses water and chemicals, it is best for a longer lasting carpet.

Green Carpet Cleaning

Green cleaning is the most eco-friendly way of cleaning carpets so far. It involves the use of natural based cleaning products as detergents. However, when acquiring these products, always ensure they are green certified by relevant authorities. The detergents are usually friendly to the user. Therefore, if you have kids or pets, this is the way to go. In addition, the chemicals used in this method are less adhesive and require less water to wash out compared to steam cleaning, thus making it more economical.

Bonnet Cleaning

It can sometimes be classified as a form of dry cleaning because it does not necessarily require water. The method entails cleaning the carpet using a rotating absorbent pad that is soaked in a chemical solution. Unlike in other methods, here the cleaner contains the detergent.  The bonnet pad then attracts dirt from your carpet and cleans it while moving. After cleaning with bonnet, vacuum the carpet for more effectiveness. This is the most preferable method if you do not want to wet your carpet.
